Artificial lights coming from electronic gadgets such as mobile phones and tablets can cause difficulty in sleeping. It complicates our sleeping pattern by tricking our body into assuming that the light emitted by electronic gadgets is daytime induced. Lack of enough sleep can lead to serious health concerns like depression, trouble in concentration, and weakened immune system.
Reaching the stage of deep sleep is important because it is the phase when our body repairs and restores itself. Exposure to artificial lights from electronic gadgets before sleep makes it difficult to reach the stage of deep sleep.
According to Dr. Chris Idzikowski, director of the Edinburgh Sleep Centre, “There is now more than sufficient evidence from a large number of reputable investigators who are finding that smartphones exposure an hour before sleep adversely affects deep sleep.”
In addition, radiation from electronic gadgets may activate the brain’s stress system, making people more alert and less likely to fall asleep. So dimming your smartphone's brightness can help but the problem in falling asleep may still persist.
For best result, it is advised to take a break from using your computer and smartphone an hour before bed time
